When you go through the door at the back of the dining hall you will be led into the kitchen. This is the only access to it. Unlike Hogwarts, there are no house elves to do the dirty work. If students want to eat they must cook for themselves, and if they want clean clothes, they must wash their own. It's not so easy for half-breeds on the island.
